Siegel Law Group served as lead counsel and obtained a $925,000 settlement in this wage and hour lawsuit against Reliance Standard Life Insurance Company on behalf of individuals employed in the United States as salaried “STD Claims Examiner II” and “LTD Claims Examiner I” during the time period at issue. Led by Jack Siegel of Siegel Law Group, the plaintiffs brought this unpaid overtime case alleging violations of the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, 29 U.S.C. § 201, et seq. (“FLSA”) and Maine wage and hour laws. The case was litigated in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and was captioned Green et al. v. Reliance Standard Life Insurance Company, No. 1:20-cv-03878.

The plaintiffs were Claims Examiners who handled short- and long-term disability claims. They alleged that they routinely worked more than forty hours a week, were paid a flat salary, and were classified as exempt without being paid overtime. The settlement covered 202 claims examiners who were FLSA opt-ins, members of a Maine state-law class, or both. The settlement resolved the claims alleged in the action.
